I created a poster in honor of Women's History Month 2023 for Michigan's Arts Initiative "Respond/ Resist/ Rethink: An Exhibition of Student Art for Change". My poster is called "Afghan Women Want To Learn", and was inspired by Malala Yousafzai. This was a case that represented the true/initial purpose of feminism and therefore was perfect to advocate for during Women's History Month.
"Years ago, female education in Afghanistan was banned. Malala Yousafzai and many other strong women fought for their rights and were eventually granted access to education, but there was still social pressure against the women. In 2020, the government was reestablished, and so was the ban. Many schools and colleges were closed, and every female was deprived of learning. The Afghanistan government uses Islam as an excuse for its extremism, but it is actually obligated for males and females to get educated. The population consists mostly of Muslims, and they are furious with the new tyranny and ridiculous rulings that go against their religion." - Zeinab Harajli
